Fly to Blue: News

We had a fun time at Epic Arts in Berkeley last weekend. Aly Kahn and friends opened the show and they were awesome. Aly had guest singers Louis and Stephanie perform with him. Aly gives away a guitar at every show as part of an organization that he is with, and there was a surprised guitar winner there. Epic Arts is in an old hippy style house/venue. Perhaps, it was fitting that we played 'Old Hippy' as an encore. Richard from Thriving Artists came to the show and we persuaded he and Aly to join us all on stage while Rob played some drum with us.
While we were in the Bay Area we did some mixing on our upcoming album, and now have 5 songs done. We also recorded a couple more.

Thanks to all the folks who supported us by coming to our shows and being so great to us in 2006. We had a busy and fun year, and are looking forward to good things ahead for 2007, including our somewhat mythical CD......that will be coming out soon.....and will be worth the wait.....if we do say so ourselves!!!

Alright, some folks have been asking what songs will be on the CD. It's a bit hard to decide, having two songwriters in Fly To Blue we have about 4 hours of material.....and not that kind of budget. So for the CD we picked some of our most requested tunes from our live show. A couple of songs from our demo have been re-recorded because the sound quality on our new CD will be much higher.
Here's the list in no particular order; Walk Away, Spring Song, Only You, Linger, 52, Island, Sail On Home, Unravel, Ili Ke Aloha, The Lion's Roar, and Upstairs.

The show in Venice on Friday night was great fun. Thanks to the lovely audience for being so cool, we'll see you again soon.

We had such a great show in Hollywood on Thursday night. It was so fun, we caught up with friends from Maui, that are now living in the surrounding LA Area. We also got to meet some wonderful new people, as well. It was good to share our music inspired by Maui to our Maui friends, songs such as Ili Ke Aloha and Island. Both songs will be on our upcoming album. Thanks to all of you for making it a remarkable evening.

The weather is cooling, the trees are losing their leaves slowly turning beautiful colors of golden, then red then brown......

I can hardly believe it's September already. The weather is perfect now. We have been a bit distracted lately from our recording project because we moved to a new house and are trying to get things in order. We performed at the West Coast Songwriters finals at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley on the 25th of August, but weren't selected to perform at the WCS conference. But we had a fun time all the same, and saw lots of folks we know and met a lot of new ones, as well. And David was able to pick up his "Best Song of the Year" award. Where ever will we hang it....?!!!

Look for us in Southern California. We plan to put more energy into playing for our fans in So Cal this year.

Fly To Blue's own David Gunn, has won San Francisco's West Coast Songwriter's "Song of the Year."

He is invited to have his winning song "Sail On Home" put on the WCS Compilation CD and to be in the WCS finals at the Freight and Salvage on Friday, August 25th. Congratulations to David, and best of luck in the finals.

David won "Best Song" for his song "Sail On Home" at the West Coast Songwriters open mic at the San Francisco chapter. The prize is 3 free hours of studio time at local recording studio!!! Yeah, we like it.
This also enters him in a chance to play at the San Francisco playoffs on August 10th.

We finally got to put to use that collective 6 hours of studio time that Valarie and David both won through monthly "Best Song" contests at West Coast Songwriter's South Bay chapter.

We recorded 2 more songs "Upstairs" and "Ili Ke Aloha." We still have 2 hours left over so we will be back again soon!!!

We spent some time laying down another song in the studio. This one is David's song called "Only You."
It's a pretty lil' love song, Wavey Davey style.

Ah, summer school. It'll quickly be over, as it's in an intensive course, I usually find most mathmatics classes are intense for me anyway!!

David won the "Best Song" award at the North Bay's West Coast Songwriter's Association's monthly open mic. The prize is three hours of studio time from a local recording studio. He will perform in the semi-finals at the Sweetwater Saloon on August 8th.

We have been back in the studio and being quite productive lately. We have a few songs ready to mix.
Here's what we are nearly finished with now;
Sail On Home, Walk Away, Linger, Fifty-two, and Spring Song.

Just in time for spring..... Valarie was in the studio this weekend and recorded "Spring Song." Which is a nice little tune about making it through the winter and refreshingly arriving at spring.

Fly To Blue will perform live on KKUP 91.5 FM on Thursday, March 9th at 8pm to 8:30pm, hosted by Jackie Loken.

The Fly To Blue T-shirts have arrived, and are being sold at live performances for $10. There are a few different styles and colors to choose from. We'll see you soon.

Thanks to everyone that came to the show at the Blue Rock Shoot on Saturday the 4th of March!! It was so nice to play to a full house. We'll be back there again on May 6th.

David has won a "Best Performance" award at the West Coast Songwriters Association open mic, held in San Francisco. Congratulations David!!
